All-American Murder: A smart-ass college student gets caught
up in a web of deceit, lies, and murder.
This is a great B-grade thriller
with a sense of humor starring Charlie Schlatter and Christopher
Walken. Both are perfect for this quirky film where style is far
more important than plot, although the plot isn't half bad. It
isn't great, but it has its moments, as well as some great, albeit
not quite realistic, dialogue. It reminds me a bit of Crimes of
Passion in some ways. It isn't for everybody, but it deserves
more recognition than it received.
Mitchell Anderson plays Doug (not Tom) Sawyer, a preppie college
guy with a dark side. His ever-so-slightly over-the-top acting
fits perfectly into this movie. The scene in which he confesses
his foreboding sexual secrets (accompanied by glimpses of raw, animalistic sex acts) is great, and
should prove to everyone that a gay actor can indeed play a heterosexual
character.
